
Master Al-Nasser is a highly accomplished martial artist with more than four decades of experience across multiple disciplines. He currently holds the ranks of 6th Dan in Hapkido, 4th Dan in Hankido, and 4th Dan in Hankumdo.
His martial arts journey began in 1982 at the Bamboo Monastery in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he studied Southern-style Praying Mantis Gung Fu (南派螳螂) under Art Wong and Tommy Wong. In 1984, he expanded his training to include Kali, Jeet Kune Do, and Muay Thai under Rick Faye of the Minnesota Kali Association. Two years later, in 1986, he undertook private instruction in Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo (무덕관 태권도) with his cousin, David Hubbard, 3rd Dan.
In 1996, Master Al-Nasser began formal training in Hapkido at the Won Ki Kwan Martial Arts Academy (원기관) in Deephaven, Minnesota, under Master Shin Hoon (7th Dan). His commitment to deep study led him to Korea, where he trained under several of the art’s leading figures. Between 2001 and 2006, he received advanced instruction in Hapkido, Hankido and Hoi Jeon Moo Sool (회전무술).
In recognition of his mastery and leadership, Master Al-Nasser has founded and directed several international martial arts institutions, including:
• Sun Mu Kwan – USA (Los Angeles, 2001)
• Ji Yong Kwan (지용관 / 智勇館) (2005)
• Lao Hapkido Federation (ສະຫະພັນ ຮັບກິໂດ ແຫ່ງຊາດລາວ) (2022)
• Hwa Ki Kwan (화기관 / 和氣館) (2024)
Master Al-Nasser’s accomplishments include:
• Appointment as IHF Chairman of Laos by Doju Myung Sung Kwang (2023)
• Certification as a World Hoi Jeon Moo Sool Federation Instructor (2012)
• Recognition as an International Referee (Class A-3)
• Appointment as a Cultural Ambassador by the Gangwon Gam Yeong Properties Committee, South Korea (2014)
• Recipient of international honors, including the Outstanding Leadership Award, Mugunghwa Peace & Martial Arts and Key to the City of Springfield, Michigan (2014).
• Honorary Citizenship of Pattaya, Thailand (2016)
Beyond his competitive and instructional achievements, Master Al-Nasser has dedicated significant time to community service and self-defense education, volunteering with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Emergency Operations Bureau to provide self-defense workshops for youth and adults across Southern California.
Today, Master Al-Nasser continues to promote the philosophy of harmony and discipline embodied in Hwa Ki Kwan—the School of Harmony and Energy—and remains committed to advancing martial arts education and cultural exchange worldwide.
